Review of Lehua Custer Clinic

October 2, 2022

Lehua Custer at the clinic

Lehua Custer joined us on October 2, 2022, at Buttonwood Farm for a clinic. We had 10 rides with a variety of horse and rider combinations. We had professionals, amateurs, some seasoned, some not, and a junior rider. Lehua worked her magic with each of them. She was always encouraging, and aware of each rider’s limits, yet pushed them to subtly make a few shifts to ride their horses happily more balanced, and forward.

We had a few kids join us as auditors. We were happy that they took us up on our invitation to come for free. With all the positive feedback and step-by-step problem-solving Lehua did with each ride, this was a great clinic to learn from for them.

Lehua is originally from Hawaii. She spent her college years in California to pursue a Bachelor’s in Psychology and grad school at Pepperdine University. While there, Hilda Gurney took her under her wing, and one lesson turned into a decade long opportunity as an assistant trainer at Keenridge. She then ran her own business out of the LA Equestrian Center for 10 years. In 2019, Lehua then moved her business to Wellington, Fl to fully commit to her invitation to join the US Development Program with goals of representing the US in international sport. How exciting for her and lucky for us!

Check out her website for more information about her.

Could we also add (it’s not in the trifold) that we follow USDF? I am too tired tonight, but could we say something like: SFDA follows the USDF rules and guidelines concerning regional schooling horse shows.
